The National Film Festival for Talented Youth (NFFTY—pronounced “nifty”) was formed in 2007 with the goal to become the most influential youth-oriented film festival in America. The festival showcases films by filmmakers (21 and under) from across the country and hosts a number of panel discussions, workshops and other year-round filmmaking activities in Seattle, WA.
The Story
Jesse Harris’ experience directing a feature film (“Living Life”) at the age of seventeen sparked his desire to create a support organization for young filmmakers. Jocelyn R.C., whose creative endeavors include filmmaking, songwriting, photography and drawing, got in touch with Harris after seeing “Living Life” and expressed her own want for a creative youth organization. Harris and R.C. combined their respective desires and began the very early discussions of what would eventually become NFFTY. Kyle Seago, also a young passionate filmmaker, quickly hopped on board with Harris and R.C. and they established the National Film Festival for Talented Youth (NFFTY).
The Mission
To enable, nurture, promote and encourage the next generation of filmmakers to inspire, lead and entertain the world with their stories!
NFFTY is committed to motivating young individuals to pursue their creative goals, hone their skills and develop their talent in filmmaking.
The Organization
NFFTY is just one aspect of our operating parent organization, The Talented Youth, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. Make a tax-deductible donation here.
What NFFTY Does and Will Do
The festival will provide young filmmakers with an opportunity to showcase their films to audiences of all ages. It is only with audience reaction and insight that individuals can grow creatively as filmmakers. The festival will also offer workshops and panel discussions on various filmmaking principals and useful production experience from industry professionals. Eventually NFFTY and its parent organization, The Talented Youth, hope to expand into an even larger national youth arts organization providing resources for all types of art.
